Japanese Huntsman This is an extremely rare Japanese Okimono of a Hunter. Besides the large size, what makes him rare is the rifle he is carrying. It is a matchlock, made for many years, but is consistent with the time period of the piece. The rifle is removable as a separate work of art. He has his game (rabbit and bird) attached to his belt and a basket of fruits and veggies also attached. Note the foliage at his feet and his cool rope sandals. He is signed by the noted artist 'Gyokushi' who worked in the 'middle period' (1800 to 1868). He is in perfect condition with no damage or repairs. 12" tall

Pair Ivory Phoenix This is a fine pair of Phoenix standing on foliage with beautiful fine carved flowers. I am not sure what flowers, but they have many thinly carved pedals and seed pods in the center. Absolutely incredible detail. They are each holding a twig in their mouths. The carved out areas are just breath taking to imagine the artist removing that much ivory to leave the twig, bulbs, branches, flowers and leaves. 12" (without the stands)
