N812:  Ivory 'Worker' Netsuke

This is a very fine antique Japanese ivory netsuke of a Worker busy at his station.  He is holding his tablet in one hand and his writing instrument in the other.  There is his box at his side.  Very nice example with great patina.  He sits 1 1/2" tall and 1 1/2" wide.  Circa probably 1880 or earlier.

H1011  Ivory 'Scholar' Netsuke

This is an extremely nice ivory netsuke of a Scholar sitting with this scroll spread out.   He has a very light stain along with nice patina.  He sits 1 1/4 tall.  Circa probably turn of the century.

N1015:  Ivory 'Wiseman Monk' Netsuke

This is a delightful ivory netsuke of a Wiseman monk sitting with a scroll on his arms as he meditates.  Highly polished finish and nice patina.  Note the great detail to his facial expression and white beard.  He sits 1 1/2" tall. Circa probably around 1920 or so.

N1017:  Ivory 'Happy Hotei' Netsuke

This is a fine rendition of one of the Japanese 7 Gods of Good Fortune.... Hotei.  He is sitting holding a large fan as he day dreams with his bag of good fortune at his side.  Highly polished finish and nice patina.  He sits 1 1/2" tall.  Circa probably 1920 or so.

N1016:  Ivory 'God of Longevity' Netsuke

This is a fine rendition of one of the Japanese 7 Gods of Good Fortune.  He is the God of Wisdom.  He sits holding the peach of long life.  Highly polished finish and nice patina.  He sits 1 1/2" tall.  Circa probably 1920 or so.

N988:  Ivory 'Mochi Man' Netsuke

This is an unusual ivory netsuke of a man making mochi (rice patties).  He has a large basket in his lap and some in each hand (all stained white).  He has a nice light stain and is extra large (almost twice as large as most netsuke) although the measurements do not show that.  He sits 1 5/8" tall, but 2" wide and 1 1/2" thick.  Circa probably around 1930 or so.

N996:  Stag Antler 'God of Longevity' Netsuke

This is a very antique stag antler netsuke of the God of Wisdom with his long staff and peach of long life.  He is highly polished after 150 years of use and handling.  Note the worn himotoshi on his back where the cord was.  He stands 2 1/4" tall.  Circa probably around 1850 or so...

N1002:  Ivory 'Kabuki' Netsuke

This is a fun ivory netsuke of a Kabuki Dancer.  He is a 'turn face' netsuke with his face revolving from good to evil.  There are many of these around, but this one is exceptionally nicely carved from a nice think ivory.  He stands 2 1/8" tall.  Circa probably around 1930 or so..

N991:  Ivory 'Rice Protector' Netsuke

This is an unusual ivory netsuke of a man hunched over protecting a bag of rice from the rat on his shoulder.  A very popular story line in Japan  He has a light stain and the big/little himotoshi (the larger hole is to hide the knot of the cord, not seen on 'display netsuke'.  He is 1 3/4" wide.  Circa probably late 19th century.

N1033:  Ivory 'Frog and Snake' Netsuke

This is a fun ivory netsuke of a bucket with a snake creeping up on a frog.  It is carved with the best detail including the snake's scales, the rope, and the graining on the wood.  The top is hollowed out some with the handle across.  It sits 1 5/8" and is signed by the artist.
