A884: Ivory Geisha
This as good as it gets. Japanese ivory Geisha holding an umbrella.
She is carved from a solid piece of ivory with the exception of her umbrella
(which comes apart with a screw on top center). She is dressed in
the traditional Japanese kimono complete with obi. But note the detail
to every feature including her beautiful face. Maybe hard to see
in the pic, but her right sleeve is carved through up to her arm.
Again, take note to the detail of her clothing with the folds and flowing
illusion of movement. The umbrella is in itself a small masterpiece.
There is a collar in the center that unscrews to be able to remove the
round part (a tiny chip to this collar and one tiny tiny chip to the outside
of the umbrella... see pic).... otherwise, absolutely perfect. She
stands 9 1/2" to the highest point. She is signed by the artist...... (click

A885: Japanese Smoking
Man
This is a great example of a Japanese Ivory Okimono of a Man Smoking.
He is a traditional 'sectional' okimono, but is on the large side for such
a carving. He is standing holding his pipe on one hand and his bag
and pipe case in the other with a basket and tree stumps at his feet.
He is signed by the artist and is in perfect condition. He stands
7" tall.

Spectacular example of Indian Art on Ivory. It is painted on
a huge slab of exquisite ivory measuring 11" x 4.5". The scene is
a pleasant courtyard with people sitting playing instruments, visiting
with each other, with riders in the background. It is mounted in
a nice gilt frame shadow box measuring 17" x 17" x 2.25". It is in

A865: Ivory Mother and
Child
This is very nice rendition of a mother and
child. It may well be Kwan Yin as she has been done in many motifs.
They are carved from extremely nice ivory with just the right amount of
creamy ivory color. She stands 10" and is perfect.

A874: Maharaja on Elephant
A very well done tribute to the Maharaja riding
on an elephant with his two servants. The one in the back is holding
an umbrella (removable) while the other guides the ride (his hook is also
removable). It is carved from nice ivory with 'attachments' in the
old Japanese tradition including the ladder, side panels, etc. Some
of these attachments have some gaps due to age, and a couple of tiny splits,
but none that are dangerous or distracting to the piece. The decoration
on the elephant's head are free hanging. They stand in impressive
6 1/2" to the top of the umbrella (not counting the nice wood stand).

A846: Japanese Peach
This is a simple but fine example of the tradition
of carving fruits in Japan. This is a LARGE piece of old ivory with
beautiful crosshatching and graining. I am sure the pics and measurements
do not the show the real size, but it is life size. There is some
crazing (tight age lines on the bottom that only adds character). 2 1/2"
x 2 1/2" (not counting stem).
