A871: Ivory Maiden
A very nice ivory maiden carved from the most pristine ivory.
Note the 'carved through' areas with her flowing robes and fan. Also
note her beautiful face and the intricate flowers she is holding.
She stands 10" tall (not counting the nice wood stand) and is perfect.

A882: Ivory Tea Party
Very unique ivory grouping of 4 individuals
apparently having a tea party. The guy on the left is holding a tray
with a tea pot and cup, the next guy is sitting playing a lute, and the
next guy is sitting holding a fan while he strokes his beard (quest of
honor?), and the guy on the far right is holding what appears to be a gourd
and a dragon head staff. The pieces in the background are a tree
and curtains. The figures are about the size of netsuke but have
no holes. The tree is 5 1/2" to give reference. The nice wire
inlay wood stand measures 8" x 5". Very entertaining.

A841: Japanese Fisherman
This is a very nice Japanese Ivory Okimono
of a Fisherman carved in the traditional Japanese style of attaching many
pieces together. He sits perched on his chair holding a ffishing
pole and a fish (pole may not be original, but suits well and is removable).
He also has his basket for the fish and his tackle box at his side.
He stands 6 1/2" tall and is in perfect condition.

A870: Japanese Snake Man
This is a very nice rendition of a man avoiding
a snake at his feet. Although I am not sure of the message, I have
seen this story often. From research, I find the Japanese often relate
the snake with women. You are on your own from here. He is
carved from one piece of ivory including the snake and bundle of fruit
he holds. Great detail and balance. He stands 7 1/2" (not counting
the wood stand he is attached to). Tight age line on left side of
face and chest running down his leg. Natural and no problem.

A855: Ivory Articulated
Crab
This is a very nice and somewhat rare ivory
crab. All the legs are hinged and move. There are many bone
reproductions on the market, but is rare to find an ivory one. He
is carved from very dense ivory (possibly hippo or walrus) to help with
the delicate pins and hinges. He is about 5" across while tucked
in and about 6" extended.

A873: Ivory Monk Eating
Rice
A little larger than a large netsuke, this
ivory Monk okimono is sitting with his chop sticks and a bowl. He
has the most adorable 'old man' toothless smile. The flow and detail
is absolutely great including his flowing robe. He sits 2 deep and
2 tall, but again, seems larger than measurements imply.

A869: Two Ivory Woodsmen
This is a delightful smaller okimono of two
woodsmen sharing a scene. The one of the left is smoking his pipe
and appears to be quite happy. His buddy is standing with his axe
as he looks at the other (waiting for a turn at the pipe?). There
is a branch of wood over their shoulders with a basket hanging. A
lot going on in a small world. They are stained a nice tea color
and are perfect. They sit 2 1/4" tall and 2 1/4" wide (appear to
be much larger than measurements imply.... about twice the size of a normal
netsuke or about the size of a small fist).

A844: Ivory Elephant
An exceptionally nice version an elephant.
He is carved with the nicest detail and stained an 'elephant color'.
His tusks are still white to make his very special. Note the folds
to his skin and downward trunk (most are up). He is 1 5/8" tall and
is mounted on a wood stand.
